Known as 'the City of Eternal Spring' for its pleasant climate and flowers that bloom all year long, Kunming was the gateway to the celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar, India and beyond. Kunming today is renowned as the modern capital city and transportation hub of China’s southern Yunnan province. The city is also the focal point of Yunnan minority culture. It’s home to numerous golf courses, restaurants serving Yunnanese cuisine and shopping areas like the Bird and Flower Market, a busy bazaar. Bridges and pavilions cross the islands of Cui Hu, a park designed in the 17th century.
