Settled at Seven Mile Beach on a sand based 175 acre site beside Hobart airport, the course was officially opened in 1963 by the Governor of Tasmania, Sir Charles Gairdner. The course is renowned for the quality of its bunkers, and has hosted many Tasmanian Opens and national Amateur championships.

Formerly known as thr Bothwell Golf Club, the Ratho Farm Golf Links were first laid out and enjoyed by the pioneering Reid family, who emigrated from Scotland and settled Ratho in 1822.
