Located in the beachside suburb of Cheltenham, Victoria is renowned as a golfing experience at level with the world’s best. The beautiful landscaping artfully challenges both the amateur and professional golfer. It is one of the more difficult courses in the Sandbelt region, with lightning-fast greens and some of the best bunkering in the country.
The Commonwealth Course is renowned for its many challenges, including long driving holes and subtle slopes that call for accurate shots. The trees that line these fairways have long been considered amongst the finest stands in golf seen in Australia.
Rated number 1 in Australia by Readers Golf Digest in 2014, the Royal Melbourne West Course sits on delightful rolling, sandy terrain. This landscape, when combined with the design skill of Dr Alister MacKenzie, gave birth to a course, nothing short of a masterpiece.
The originally sandy land was transformed by J B MacKenzie with the establishment of magnificent plantations of Australian native trees and shrubs. The course houses the most famous specimen of red flowering gum in Australia, well over 130 years old. Almost every hole is flanked by these trees which give shelter to many species of native birds.
